I went through the setting and premise but I'm a little unsure of a couple things.

1) You mentioned the year is 2013 Old Valendian, but post-Cataclysm - I can't find any reference points elsewhere, so could you tell me around what time the game is set relative to XII/Tactics/VS? How long the Glabados church has been around, maybe?

2) Is there going to be a plot or will it be mostly free-form?

3) Are the Lucavi-espers the only ones available?

Hi! I'm thinking of apping a Mage-type character, and I just want to ask about some details:

1) Does the Mage Guild offer basic weapons training, like how to use a staff for more physical purposes than spellcasting, or is it just something a Scholar/Mage is supposed to figure out on their own?

2) Are all Scholars and Mages allowed to know or receive casual/informal weapons training - just things friends would and could casually share with one another (like how to use a dagger, or how to cast a basic spell), and nothing class-restricted or too technical - from other Job classes, and vice-versa?

3) Are there any specific or expected styles of weapons and armor training for each of Ivalice's three regions?

4) For first-tier classes, are Blue Mages the only mages who aren't physically weak, or are White Mages and Synergists included?

5) Are Scholars and Mages allowed to have jobs, whether part-time or full-time, that aren't guild-specific or related (like selling wares, or repairing vehicles, etc.)?

Thanks so much!

QUESTION, DARLINGS: for mimes, do they retain any/all of the abilities they mimic, or do they immediately forget them after they're performed? like, can they fight/cast spells/whatevs on their own or do they NEED someone to do it first so they can copy? THIS IS A DUMB QUESTION, SRY

Hello! I have a question about squire training. For the requirement of 5 years of training, is it flexible? Say a young person joins the guild as a squire and is older than 12 but they want to advance to the next level, dragoon in this case, once they turn 17. And they displayed exceptional prowess/determination, along with passing whatever test needs to be passed if there is one. It would only be a small gap, say one or two years. Thank you :)

So, I had a quick question. I've realized that I've no clue where most things are (as in, what is closest to what, etc etc etc). I mean, the Emillion guide tells me what areas in town things are, but for instance, where is the commoner's district located? Is there an area close-ish to the Nobles District so that Vivi can conveniently get to her tavern without taking a crystal on nice days?

Is there a map in the works, or would you both mind terribly if I made a map? You guys tell me where things are, I make some pretty graphic thing, and voila.

Let me know!

♥Sherri

I have a question re: Dragon Riders and their dragons in combat. How will that work? I went ahead and assumed Lucy to be an offensive wyvern (hence all the fire-breathing she does at Kiernan), but to what extent can their breath attacks be used, etc? Just so I'm prepared for any combat situation that pop up again in the future be it main plot or sidequest or what have you. :)

"However, on the flip side the first failed AC, without previous mod contact or hiatus notice posted, will result in the player automatically being removed from the game." Does this mean missing the AC for, say, a single character out of your roster will lead to the entire player (so to speak) being removed?

Question regarding forum posts. What name is shown when someone posts? Is it a name? A nickname? Initials? Numbers?

just a few questions i ran into while trying to plot with mages: do people outside of the mage guild have any access to the guild libraries? would a mage be able to provide access?

hey guys, is it safe to assume places like lionel, gallione, fovoham from final fantasy tactics exist in ordalia, and countries like archades (which is valendia) are still around?

So.

Here's a thought:

Mage convention. Consists of:
-Lectures.
-Displays of findings.
-Guest speakers.
-Cormac ranting drunkenly for an hour instead of actually presenting his alchemistic findings.
-Things exploding.
-Cid getting people high off his toxic flan.
-And much much more.

Seriously.

YET ANOTHER random question: is the war of the lions and/or the fifty years war a thing in game? like a historical war that took place a few centuries back? this isn't really relevant to anything, i'm just curious!

Hi! I have some questions about how magicite works! (Since Nate is possibly going to be working with it quite a bit, and I know very little from the games at all.)

I recall there are some weapons that can 'cast' eg, an ice effect, or something like that. From that, can I infer that Spellstones can hold the effect of spells and be triggered to 'cast' them? If so, would that be a native property of the stone (this stone is fire, this stone is ice...) or would it be the result of someone casting that spell into the stone / otherwise attuning it? If the latter, would that 'tuning' be permanent, or overwriteable?

So far, the only 'magical' devices that uses spellstone that Nate makes, are Cian's dice. I've a working theory that each die contains a number of different spellstone shards, loose, and a triggering mechanism. When the die lands, the position of the shards determines the attack. Does that gel with your thoughts?

And if you have any other assorted thoughts on how magicite works, I would love to hear many, many details ^_^

dropboxing for some clarifications as a result of conversation! Referring to this bit in the FAQ: "Another possibility is to move from a base class into a second tier class. However, this takes an elongated period of study in the base class before the character can move into 'officially' being part of the second tier class (aka, must be second tier class minimum age. Study time of 10 years required due to the second tier classes being of a more complex nature than first tier classes.)"

so, say someone wants to go straight to being an orator: base class is apprentice at age 10, minimum age for orator is 20. does that mean that they could become an orator at 20 (after 10 years spent in the thieves' guild, at the base class)?

so i'm still a little confused on the espers vs. summons thing--if you were to give a character a summon, would they have to be from that list of espers? or are they the standard summons--shiva, ifrit, etc.?

omg i swear i will stop hitting up this post, I JUST HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. but i was wondering: is it possible to have some sort of page (or gdoc!) where people could submit ideas for pop culture references? nothing huge or all that impactful to the game environment as a whole; just something to spice up dialogue, if people want to say they're going to, for example, see a specific play or they're obsessed with the coffee from _____ coffee chain. sort of like the in game locations doc, but just for random pop culture miscellany!

RELATEDLY: do movies or mobile phones exist in emillion, or are they beyond the technological scope? i thought yes, but with airships and things, i figure mobiles aren't completely beyond the realm of imagination. ty ♥

this is possibly a really stupid question (and i'm sorry in advance), but for dragoons it says their only ability is jump? i was just curious if that could be expanded to the variety of jumps & abilities on the dragoon page on the FF wikia, since just jump/double jump is pretty limited in comparison to the abilities other classes have. :xx

if not that's okay!

Are specific FG classes trained in specific halls? Like are knights specifically trained at, say, Shieldwyrm and archers elsewhere? What drives someone in the FG, be it a squire, a knight, archer, dragoon, berserker, etc, to be trained in a specific guildhall?

hello! i was looking through the ninja abilities and since they seem a little limited compared to other classes, i was wondering if they could be expanded to include any ninjutsu, or something?

i want to make li a ninja (no, i kid). if it doesn't pan out that's fine too!
