I went through the setting and premise but I'm a little unsure of a couple things.

1) You mentioned the year is 2013 Old Valendian, but post-Cataclysm - I can't find any reference points elsewhere, so could you tell me around what time the game is set relative to XII/Tactics/VS? How long the Glabados church has been around, maybe?

2) Is there going to be a plot or will it be mostly free-form?

3) Are the Lucavi-espers the only ones available?

1) Pharism and Saint Ajora are very well-established and Kiltia has been a defunct religion for several thousand years. While the three games aren't officially part of the same canon/timeline, and don't correspond entirely in that manner (hence why we're not using certain spuriously accurate ultimania timelines for example), for the sake of discussion you could consider it close between Tactics and VS in overall concept.

2) We have an ongoing central plot in preparation that will be open to changes by players and their overall involvement. Side plots will also be available.

3) The main espers/lucavi are listed in the information, including Zodiark. There will be summons available in the game as well, which are unrelated.

Hi! I'm thinking of apping a Mage-type character, and I just want to ask about some details:

1) Does the Mage Guild offer basic weapons training, like how to use a staff for more physical purposes than spellcasting, or is it just something a Scholar/Mage is supposed to figure out on their own?

2) Are all Scholars and Mages allowed to know or receive casual/informal weapons training - just things friends would and could casually share with one another (like how to use a dagger, or how to cast a basic spell), and nothing class-restricted or too technical - from other Job classes, and vice-versa?

3) Are there any specific or expected styles of weapons and armor training for each of Ivalice's three regions?

4) For first-tier classes, are Blue Mages the only mages who aren't physically weak, or are White Mages and Synergists included?

5) Are Scholars and Mages allowed to have jobs, whether part-time or full-time, that aren't guild-specific or related (like selling wares, or repairing vehicles, etc.)?

Thanks so much!

1) To a degree, yes. Any senior mage with that knowledge (a Red Mage for example) could train a younger scholar/apprentice.

2) As long as it's logical and reasonable it's likely we'll allow it. If you want to run a particular idea by us, you can also shoot us an email just to be certain.

3) If you want to do some individual world-building, and say, for instance, a particular village or small region is focused on a particular style, we're definitely open to this. Emillion itself however, and the surrounding area, is very diverse in this case.

4) You could, potentially, have a white mage or synergist that isn't "physically weak"/has self-defense or a reasonable degree of weapons training, while keeping in mind their strengths, focus in study and overall limitations.

5) Absolutely. Magical study does not need to encompass the entirety of their lives, and for those not wealthy or nobles, it would be natural for them to seek out a reliable source of income.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I do have an idea about #2, which I'll send by email. Just some follow-up questions:

* Are occupations along the lines of 'waitress' or 'cook' acceptable for someone in the Mage guild?

* Which spells count as first level spells, and are we players allowed to choose which ones and how many we have?

The mages guild has no hard restrictions regarding what professions are and aren't acceptable. However, as some of the mages guild consider themselves the elite, as they house powerful knowledge far above the "average person", some may look down on someone working in such professions. This doesn't mean they'd be shunned or anything just that some people may be snooty.

Which spells are regarded as "first level" depend on which Mage class you're interested in. For example, first level spells for a black Mage would be things like fire, ice and thunder to name a few. For a white Mage things like cure, blindna and poisona would be acceptable. A scholar going down the mystic path would be likely to pick up things like blind, slow and fog as examples.

However, we're not looking to lock players into only having specific spell lists and abilities and everyone to have the exact same abilities and skill levels. As long as good reason can be given for something we're willing to consider it as long as it's not too far a reach. Like a scholar knowing ultima would be unacceptable. Regarding the number of spells you're allowed to have we just ask people to be reasonable again, no character at game start will know all the spells and all levels of those spells. We'd love to see room for every character to grow both in powers and in personal plot/emotional and relationship development.

Thanks for your questions!

Hello!

Thank you for your suggestion. We will certainly take it into consideration as that could be quite useful as you mentioned.

Surely for venturing through the dark wilds and fending off the evil beasts of this realm you have earned several words of praise as well!

QUESTION, DARLINGS: for mimes, do they retain any/all of the abilities they mimic, or do they immediately forget them after they're performed? like, can they fight/cast spells/whatevs on their own or do they NEED someone to do it first so they can copy? THIS IS A DUMB QUESTION, SRY

Hello!

Mime's do not retain any abilities that they copy.

Additionally, they can only immediately mimic the actions of the last ally that acted before them. Therefore if the last action preformed an ally casting Fira then your character can cast Fira. However, this doesn't mean they can "choose" what the last action they preform was. If someone else then casts Ice, the Mime would lose the ability to cast Fira but then be able to cast Ice, but they must be quick enough to perform the mimic immediately or the action will be nullified.

okay, ty! are they able to do anything without copying it first? can they attack with, say, a knife (or whatever weapon of choice), or cast a basic spell? also just so i'm sure, when you say "ability" do you only mean magic, or do you mean literally any ability--someone does a backflip, they can do a backflip, etc. the ff wiki wasn't terribly clear on it.

As Mime's require going through Apprentice training just like any other Thieves Guild based character, they do have access to basic things like low level spells and simple attacks without having to Mimic those actions.

Regarding what they can mimic specifically, they are able to mimic spells, special abilities (a Sentinel's SteelGuard, a Thief's Steal, etc) and basic actions (backflips for example) but only if the action is completed immediately (as in one or two seconds) after the initial person completed the action and they may not always be successful as the Mime has to work within their own ability limitations. As Mime's tend to have average "stats" they might not be strong enough to pull off leaping as high as a Dragoon because they are not as strong, or raging as long as a Berserker due to their stamina not being as good, etc. Additionally, there is always a chance for failure in every action and we expect that to be taken into consideration as well.

Example: If a Mime wanted to try mimicking making a pie, they wouldn't be able to mimic the whole process after it was done, they would have to attempt to mimic each individual step of pie making and may not be able to successfully do some of the steps due to basic human error.

Also, they would not be able to mimic item use without having a copy of that item on their person already.

Hello! I have a question about squire training. For the requirement of 5 years of training, is it flexible? Say a young person joins the guild as a squire and is older than 12 but they want to advance to the next level, dragoon in this case, once they turn 17. And they displayed exceptional prowess/determination, along with passing whatever test needs to be passed if there is one. It would only be a small gap, say one or two years. Thank you :)

Hello,

As we outline in the FAQ the minimum ages are hard requirements. We encourage you to go ahead and read through some of the FAQ information surrounding ages to get a better grasp on our views of the situation and why we're handling it in such a way.

What's the legal drinking age in Emillion?

So, I had a quick question. I've realized that I've no clue where most things are (as in, what is closest to what, etc etc etc). I mean, the Emillion guide tells me what areas in town things are, but for instance, where is the commoner's district located? Is there an area close-ish to the Nobles District so that Vivi can conveniently get to her tavern without taking a crystal on nice days?

Is there a map in the works, or would you both mind terribly if I made a map? You guys tell me where things are, I make some pretty graphic thing, and voila.

Let me know!

I have a question re: Dragon Riders and their dragons in combat. How will that work? I went ahead and assumed Lucy to be an offensive wyvern (hence all the fire-breathing she does at Kiernan), but to what extent can their breath attacks be used, etc? Just so I'm prepared for any combat situation that pop up again in the future be it main plot or sidequest or what have you. :)

Hello!

Currently the legal drinking age is 16.

However, with this in mind and the age being so low, we ask that players keep in mind that drinking is more 'normalized' in this setting, so things like binge drinking wouldn't be as common.

Hello!

We do have some ideas in mind regarding how the city is set up and don't mind creating a map of some sort. However, as we've put a fair amount of thought into the layout, it will take us a bit of time to write up. Would you mind if we get in contact with you later regarding this for more extensive details?

Hello!

We imagine that Lucy (and all Dragon Rider members with a dragon) would work like any monster in a fight. This means they would be less powerful than summons, would require healing when they are damaged, can die, and can attack fairly normally with both breath and claw attacks. However, there probably would come a time where Lucy's "fire producing" would need to recharge and she wouldn't be able to "breath fire" again until the recharge time had passed. We're not going to set a specific amount of time, but considering a dragon's breath attack is probably the most powerful attack in it's arsenal, we would expect it to take quite a bit to recharge once depleted. This simply means she could probably cast something to the effect of Mass Firaga spell a few times over a combat period.

If you have any other questions, as always, feel free to let us know!

"However, on the flip side the first failed AC, without previous mod contact or hiatus notice posted, will result in the player automatically being removed from the game." Does this mean missing the AC for, say, a single character out of your roster will lead to the entire player (so to speak) being removed?

Hello!

That was an error that slipped past when editing over. That should read:

"However, on the flip side the first failed AC, without previous mod contact or hiatus notice posted, will result in any characters that have not passed AC being removed from the game. If all of the players characters fail AC, the player will be removed from the game as well."
